Dr. Andrew S. Nevin, PhD.

Advisory Partner and Chief Economist, PWC, Nigeria

Dr. Andrew S. Nevin, PhD has had a unique 35 year global career as a thinker and a doer, working at the complex intersection of economics, strategy, capital markets, social enterprises, and investment and in his professional career has previously lived in Asia, North America, and Europe.

He has been based in Nigeria (the world’s 7th most populous country) since early 2012.

In Nigeria, Andrew is a nation-builder and public intellectual, playing a number of key roles to advance Nigeria’s and West Africa’s economy and society, including:

  • Partner – Financial Services Leader and Chief Economist at PwC Nigeria
    • Andrew is PwC West Africa’s Financial Services Leader across Assurance, Tax, and Advisory. His own clients include numerous African banks, insurance companies, and capital market players. He also works with global companies looking to expand their footprint in Nigeria and Africa.
    • As Chief Economist, he leads Nigeria’s best economics team and is one of the pre-eminent voices speaking about the Nigerian economy, both in the media and as keynote speaker to numerous conferences. He also leads many engagements with public sector entities and IDAs focused on the biggest challenges in the Nigerian economy and society, including capital markets, housing, and innovation.

Some of the key use cases in Nigeria include the land registry, low-value payments (like the eNaira), and identity management.
    • Co-founder of Binkabi, a blockchain-enabled supply chain platform (binkabi.io) and an Advisor to the related company Untangled, focused on decentralized finance

    • Advisor to and investor in several Nigerian start-up companies (sled by young Nigerians) in the areas of supply chain finance, diaspora remittances, and digital currencies.

All these roles combine to create one of Nigeria’s most dynamic television, print, and social media presences, as Andrew advocates for the changes that will unlock Nigeria’s enormous human and economic potential. In addition to being continuously in the Nigerian media, he has been quoted in the Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, and Newsweek.

In PwC UK, prior to joining PwC Nigeria, Andrew led the writing PwC’s global response to the 2008 Great Financial Crisis (Day After Tomorrow) and subsequently developed PwC’s first global megatrends and future of financial services perspective – Project Blue.

Before joining PwC, he spent 10 years living in China and was the President of United Family Hospitals (China’s pre-eminent international hospital chain) during the SARS crisis in 2003 through early 2005.

Andrew started his career at McKinsey & Company, serving in the Toronto and Paris offices.
